British Journalist/Hacker Hacks into Phone of the Royal Family

A journalist/hacker pleaded guilty of hacking the phone line of the Royal Family.

LONDON (AFP) – The royal correspondent on Britain’s biggest selling newspaper has pleaded guilty in court to hacking into the mobile phone messages of Princes Charles, William and Harry’s staff.

News of the World reporter Clive Goodman, 48, admitted plotting to intercept private phone messages at a hearing at the Central Criminal Court in London on Wednesday.

Police opened an investigation in December last year when three staff at Clarence House, Charles’s official residence in London, contacted them about alleged repeated security breaches on its telephone network.

He wishes through me to take the first opportunity to apologise publicly to those affected by his actions,” John Kelsey-Fry told the judge.

“He accepts they were a gross invasion of privacy and Mr Goodman accepts that this characterisation is correct.

“He therefore apologises unreservedly to the three members of the royal household staff concerned and their principals, Prince William, Prince Harry and the Prince of Wales” (Charles).

Private investigator Glenn Mulcaire, 35, admitted the same charge as Goodman.

He also admitted five charges of unlawfully intercepting the voicemail messages of former England footballer Sol Campbell’s agent Skylet Andrew, Australian supermodel Elle Macpherson, British lawmaker Simon Hughes, publicist Max Clifford and Gordon Taylor, the chairman of the Professional Footballers’ Association.

Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co.(PLDT) is closing its doors and cancelling all partnerships with Aces Satellite according to this article:

PHILIPPINE Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) said it was ready to “write off” its mobile satellite business through Aces International Ltd., chairman Manuel Pangilinan said during a briefing.

“We’re closing our transactions with Aces,” said Pangilinan who revealed that PLDT will still retain a certain portion of ownership of the company. “This will give Aces a wider scope.”

SAN FRANCISCO — US Internet search giant Yahoo began testing new software Tuesday to expand the use of banner-style online advertising from desktop computers to mobile telephones.

The software is designed to project small graphic advertisements onto the screen of a mobile phone and has been tailored for Yahoo’s Mobile Web service in the United States.

The service allows users to access e-mail, Internet search, and news functions and the first image-oriented ads are due to go live this week.

It is not specified how it would be targeted although rumours is that it would be served contextually similar to google adsense.

Earlier this year, Apple Computer introduced its Red Edition 4GB iPod nano in support of the Red Campaign towards raising a Global Fund to Fight AIDS in Africa.

Latest reports say the company has introduced an 8GB Red Edition iPod nano, reiterating its commitment to the world initiative.

The Red campaign was kicked off in the US in October, under the aegis of lead singer of U2, Bono, and philanthropist, Bobby Shriver, with support from none other than UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan.

The campaign was kick-started as a corporate charity movement, wherein corporates would donate a portion of sales proceeds from designated products towards the Global Fund to Fight AIDS in Africa.

The 8GB Red Edition iPod nano is similar to the 4GB version in most aspects, except that it can hold up to around 2,000 songs, which is nearly double the capacity of the 4GB Red nano already on the market.
